Glass Haul_____________________________________________________________________
In March 2002, I joined the BFS specialty fleet division hauling U.S. glass into Canada, anywhere from Quebec to B.C. I've enjoyed this for a number of reasons: The runs are over familiar roads and you get to know a lot of people by their first names and they get to know you. It's a good feeling to feel like you are a part of a big family at Big Freight, and not just a number. Most of the office staff recognizes my voice on the phone and knows me by name to see me. All the drivers are like a big family - always willing to volunteer to help another driver get loaded or unloaded, even if it means they themselves will have to push a little harder to get to their next stop. Glass hauling has been a bit of a change than General Freight. It takes a little longer to load/unload than most things, but it is enjoyable. "I have been working at Big Freight since January 2000. I started out on General Freight for 2 years, hauling anything from lumber to Polaris and OD loads to paint. I've seen a lot of country that I probably would not have seen otherwise, both in Canada and the U.S. The best part of General Freight, for the most part, was not being overly rushed and you quite often see a few sights along the way or at the end of the line.
