Employee Profile - Monique Laramee

Get to know the team at Big Freight! We will be releasing a series of blog posts with interviews featuring our professional drivers and staff.  We will cycle through the different departments until we get to know a little bit more about everyone.  Today, we are featuring Monique Laramee in the operations department.

What is your current role and what have been your past roles at Big Freight?

I am currently the National Accounts Representative in the operations department.  I started out as a receptionist, moved on to the Fuel Tax Administrator, moved on to Accounts Payable in the finance department, and moved on to the operations department and I have been in this department since.

How long have you worked at Big Freight?

32.5 years! Before starting my career at Big Freight Systems, I worked at the St. Boniface Hospital as a Purchaser after my graduation.

Tell us about your favourite Big Freight memory.

We use to work out of a trailer, and out of the old building, I used to share a phone with Red Coleman.  Red used to answer my calls, and I would joke around saying that he was my receptionist instead of the other way around.

What has been the biggest change you’ve seen through the years while working with Big Freight?

The biggest change I’ve seen is probably when we got computers.  I had to attend a week long conference in Oklahoma in order to learn the systems.

Another big change was when Daseke bought Big Freight.  It was and is an exciting time – lots of growth potential for us.

What are some of your favourite pass-times outside of work?

I dance, golf, ride my ATV, read, and I especially love spending time with my grandkids.  I have 4 grandkids: 15 year-old boy, 13 year-old girl, 11 year-old boy, and a 2 year-old girl.

What is your favourite song to jam out to?

When I’m with the 2-year old, we sing and dance to Baby Shark, but my personal favourite to sing in the car is Justin Timberlake’s Can’t Stop the Feeling.

What is your favourite dish to make?

I make a delicious Pork Chop Casserole.  My son once ate 9 pork chops in one day, a meal that was intended to last 2 days for the whole family – he just couldn’t get enough of it!

Tell us about a personal achievement you are most proud of.

I’m proud of becoming a CITT-Certified Logistics Professional.  When I was working towards my designation I was working full time and had family commitments.  It was a challenge, but nonetheless, I obtained my certification!

What do you like most about working for Big Freight?

The people.
